People with dry skin always have a problem finding the right kind of scrub to suit their skin because a harsh scrub can further dry out their skin and lead to dry flakes and patches.

There are several scrubs available in the market which caters to the needs of people with dry skin but they are expensive and might burn a hole in your pocket. Also, people with dry skin tend to have sensitivity issues. So there is a high probability of scrubs irritating their skin due to presence of various synthetic chemicals in them.

Here, in this article I shall show how to make a cheap DIY scrub for people with dry skin. This scrub is easy to make and use, and will require ingredients commonly available at home.

So, let’s get started!

Step 1: Take one teaspoonful of sugar in a bowl. Make sure the sugar is in crystallized or granulated form and not powdered.

Step 2: To this, add one teaspoonful of coconut oil. You may use almond oil or olive oil in case you don’t have coconut oil.

Step 3: Mix both the ingredients with a spoon for half a minute. Make sure the sugar does not dissolve completely and the granules are prominently seen.

How To Use The Scrub?

Take a little amount of the scrub and apply it on your face. Now gently massage the scrub onto your skin with your fingers in a circular motion for 5 minutes. Do not massage with a heavy hand or it may lead to rashes. Also, make sure to be extra gentle in the under eye area because the under eye skin is very sensitive. After massaging the entire face, let the scrub sit on your skin for 5-10 minutes. Then take a damp cloth or a wash cloth and wipe out the excess oil from the skin. Your skin will feel smoother and clearer. You may wash your face with a mild soap if need be. Repeat this procedure two times a week for a clearer, smoother, softer and glowing skin.

Note: People with normal to oily skin also may use this scrub but it’s recommended to wash skin with soap after scrubbing in such cases because it might lead to acne in such people.

Benefits Of The Scrub

Coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer and devoid of any harmful chemicals. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It helps to reduce wrinkles, prevents premature aging and also doubles up as a sun block. Sugar helps to exfoliate the dead cells and clears up the skin of any debris.

Usually the problem with scrubs is that they have an abrasive effect and end up removing even the natural oils of the skin. In this scrub, sugar exfoliates the skin and removes dirt while coconut oil imparts moisture to the skin thereby counter balancing the abrasive effect of sugar. Thereby, such shortcomings are overcome.
